For those who didn't know I love seeing movies at midnight. Everyone who is there is excited. Everyone is a little silly. People are more outwardly emotional about movie watching. As the lights dimmed in theater 1, I was excited to see what this movie would bring.

It was a lot slower than I thought it would be. It wasn't in a bad way. I just didn't expect it. (Check out the cast in this picture. Seeing them all so normal is a little disconcerting.) The over all look of the film is bright and intense.

Everyone let out an awww when Rue made her first appearance. Her character was portrayed perfectly. (I'm trying so hard not to give away anything.)
Over all the movie was very true to the book. Which caused the group that I went with to let out a sigh of relief. Watching the movie, I realized how much is in the book. It was very good and if you like the books, this will not disappoint you.

Happy Hunger Games and may the odds be ever in your favor.

I'm happily in agreement with you that the film was pretty loyal to the novel. I can understand why a few things were cut out (Avoxes, Madge, details about the Mutts) perhaps for simplicity or length; I don't think it negatively affected the integrity of the story. And there was an appropriate amount of violence and blood; realistic, nothing over the top. I also really LOVED the stylistic design! I feel like the scenes which took place in District 12 were visually reminiscent of old, Depression-era photography or artwork; really washed out and almost desolate. I especially loved the retro inspired furniture and sets in the Capitol (Katniss's lodging and the variety show looking interview scenes with Caeser).
ReplyDeleteStanely Tucci's Caeser Flickerman was hilarious and I think Jennifer Lawrence really made me BELIEVE the movie, you know? She was courageous and compelling. She WAS Katniss. I was a little disappointed with Woody Harrelson's Haymitch (he was more of a happy drunk than the snappy drunk in the book) and Peeta did nothing for me, but I was never fond of his character until the third book, anyway.
Wesley and I watched Winter's Bone on Netflix (the movie that earned Jennifer Lawrence her Academy Award as Best Actress). You should watch it sometime!
Peeta didn't really mean much to me in the first book. I was thinking of her and Gale. He seems pretty flat until then.
ReplyDeleteAs for Woody Harrelson and all I could think was Harrelson in a wig. A WIG. What is he? Nick Cage?
In the movie his character lacked a lot of the depth that he has in the book, but that happens in book to movie translation.
